Christmas...Round 1

Well, Christmas officially began for us this past Sunday when we had our get-together with my dad's mom and brother, 1 cousin and my parents. My aunt and other cousin couldn't make it because Kelsie broke her leg in a basketball game and was in quite a bit of pain, obviously not in the mood for a 4 hour drive to Denton.
Anyhowsers, my Granny cooked a delicious lunch and Hannah got to open her first Christmas presents! Even at just 7 months old she had no problem whatsoever getting the hang of ripping paper. One of the most exciting gifts she got (well, mainly exciting for me, the mama!) was her Rainforest Jumperoo! See photo below. We are already enjoying this immensely and I highly recommend it for you moms out there who do not have one. You can actually get one as soon as the baby can hold its head up well...we are just a little slow (and poor) so we had to wait until Christmas!

Hannah was in a great mood all day and enjoyed all her new toys. Tomorrow evening for Christmas Eve we are having dinner and presents with my parents. Yes, they were also present at Round 1 but we did not exchange presents with them at Granny's. We have always done presents with them on Christmas Eve and it is just a special time with them and us. I am looking forward to our traditional Christmas Eve mexican food! My contribution is homemade apple pie.

We will be travelling to Forney on Christmas Day and then up to Okie land the next day where we will be spending the night AND going to our friends' wedding in Duncan. Pray for safe travel with the baby...and my sanity.

Here are some pictures from Christmas at Granny's on Sunday!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We enjoyed Hannah's very 1st Thanksgiving at my parent's house in Lake Dallas. This photo was taken in front of their fire place--can we say Christmas card? :-)

Hannah was in a very good mood all day and enjoyed her visits with Sean's parents and sisters, my Granny and my parents. Hannah even got to have sweet potatoes like the big folks at lunch (granted hers were pureed and sans marshmallows).

I can't believe that Hannah turned 6 months old on the 18th of November! She had her 6-month well baby visit and a few shots (yes I'm one of THOSE people who have created an alternate shot schedule) :-) We found out at this visit that she weighs 16 pounds, 15 ounces and is 27 inches long! The 27 inch length puts her in the 95th percentile so she got her mamma's long legs I suppose.

Hannah has entered a super-fun stage of playing peek-a-boo (she actually pulls the blanket over herself and pulls it down), babbles all sorts of unrecognizeable sounds, blows spit bubbles, rolls all the way across the living room floor and is just very playful. I think she will crawl pretty soon because she sure is working hard to try!

Here are some photos of her recently:

Changes...

Lots of changes have recently taken place in the Deitrick household! I have compiled a bulleted list of the major happenings since I am Type-A like that:
  • I quit my job as Special Events Coordinator of the City of Lake Dallas to be able to stay at home with Hannah (and re-gain my sanity).

  • I have also started my own event planning business to do consulting and contract work on the side! It's called Something to Celebrate and sprung up from all of the great contacts I made while working for the City for almost 3 years.

  • Hannah is 5 months old!

  • Hannah is a little roly-poly, is almost sitting up on her own and can grab at anything with those little hands of hers (watch out if you have hair, glasses or dangly earrings)

  • I put together Hannah's walker and she loves it although her feet do not touch the ground in it yet. She loves the toys on it and for daddy or I to push her around in it.

  • Sean continues to be an awesome small group leader and has taken on a larger role with the Marketing Committee at CrossPointe. He is even writing a blog for the church and it is so funny yet makes some good spiritual points. I am very proud of him.

That's all for now! Here are some recent photos of our little girl:

Four Months Old!

She's growing so fast! Look...I can blog about my family too, and on my birthday nonetheless. For all the criticizing I took earlier for not being a part of this blog, it looks like I'm the only one using it now...

First Laugh

Yesterday Hannah laughed for the very first time at her Grandmama's house! I had her laying against a pillow facing me and was just talking to her when apparently I became extremely funny because the she got the giggles. It cracked me up to hear her laugh so I started laughing which made her laugh more. It was very cute and I can't wait to hear her get tickled some more. The pic above is from yesterday just before the hillarity began.
Hannah turned 3 months old just a few days ago on the 18th! I can't believe she is already 3 months old and has progressed into stage 2 diapers, lots of grabbing with her hands and 3-6 mo. clothing. She also tries to talk to us quite a bit. She is really quite the life of the party so if you want to make your next event truly special you know who to invite :-)
In non-baby news, I actually went to the mall by myself, yes by myself, yesterday and it was blissful. Every woman, especially mom, needs some retail therapy from time to time. I got some great deals and although I was annoyed by every salesperson who tried to push clothes on me or get me to sign up for their credit card, I still had a marvelous time.
Have you noticed that this blog is titled "Deep thoughts by The DEITRICKS" (Deitricks being PLURAL) yet only one Deitrick has blogged?!? The other Deitrick (I won't mention names) must be having trouble coming up with something to write as brilliant as my thoughts. Yes, that must be it.

A Quarter of a Century

I turned 25 on Sunday. Sean lovingly reminded me various times throughout the day that I was now a quarter of a century old....great. But he made up for that comment by getting me the cutest brown leather jacket for the fall! He also took me to Gloria's, this yummy Mexican-Salvadorian restaurant in Frisco. I actually got to eat a meal at a normal pace and not scarf it down before the baby got fussy or needed to eat. I also had Sangria...mmmmmm! Here we are before we left for dinner:

Also, I cannot end this post without a few favorite pics of Hannah from the month of July. She loves her activity mat that our friend Yvonne got her. She is already showing us that she is a diva because she really enjoys staring at herself in the mirror on the mat. I can't really blame her though, I mean, hello! She IS beautiful! :-) Hannah is really starting to discover her voice as well and makes all kinds of cute cooing sounds. I think she will be a little motor mouth once she can form words.

Look how long I am!

Oh Baby...

As if a two-month old doesn't keep me busy enough, I decided to create a blog for our little family. Now that Hannah is here I thought a blog would be a fun way to chronicle our lives as our baby grows. She won't be little forever and I think Sean and I will enjoy looking back on our posts in years to come. Sean says he is going to blog on here as well so you'll get my crazy ramblings and his well-thought, well-written journalistic pieces.

So come on this journey with us and don't forget to leave us some comments. We value your deep thoughts as well. Well, Hannah is getting fussy so I must go...as Mr. Handey said, "The face of a child can say it all, especially the mouth part of the face." And little Miss Hannah has quite the mouth let me tell ya.
Blessings,
Holly
